This is my sixth year of counseling, and I feel so fortunate to be working with the students and families at Magnolia Elementary! I've lived in East County my whole life, and am thankful to be serving the children in our community. I graduated from El Capitan High School (go vaqueros!), then had the full San Diego college experience by attending both Grossmont Community College and San Diego State University. I later received a Masters in Educational Counseling at National University.
I spend my free time with my husband and our two boys. We love BBQ's, hikes, and camping. Our favorite place to visit is Alaska. We have family there, so we have had the opportunity to visit many times. I enjoy spending my time enjoying all the little things life has to offer.

Hi Magnolia Family!
My name is Ms. Kristen Polan and this is my 3rd year as a School Counselor and 2nd year at Magnolia Elementary School. I am originally from New York and grew up on the east end of Long Island. I completed my undergraduate degree at SUNY Oneonta in 2016 while also participating on the women's volleyball team. Following my undergraduate program, I worked a few years in NYC. During COVID-19, I felt the immense need for mental health services for children and adolescents and decided to pursue a career in school counseling. I completed my master's degree in School Counseling at Seton Hall University in 2022 and worked one year at a charter elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. After spending a few years in NYC, I felt I was ready for a change both professionally and personally and made the move to sunny San Diego! I’m dedicated to supporting and nurturing the growth of every child in our diverse school community. My goal is to create a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. I’m excited to work with students, families, and staff to make a meaningful difference in their lives. It’s a pleasure to be a part of this community!
In my free time, I love to spend my time playing beach volleyball, reading, traveling, going to concerts and relaxing on the beach!
